"In the final regular season football game our quarterback, Andy Woodring, under pressure, launched a long pass out-of-bounds toward our sideline. The ball spiraled over us, almost in slow motion, and descending upon our cheerleaders, sitting on their blocks, in conversation and unaware of the incoming projectile.
The ball narrowly missed a petite, radiant brunette. It cruelly found its victim sitting nearby. The identity of the cheerleader hit escapes me. The other, I learned after, was Tara Doll.
I felt empathy for the injured girl as she was being tended to; her head recoiled from the force of being hit squarely under the eye. At the same time, I felt relief that Ms. Doll, the girl with the exquisite face, was spared."
